Masters Candidate, Biology (Expected program completion: December 2016)

MIAMI UNIVERSITY, OHIO

The Master's Advanced Inquiry Program (AIP) in Miami University of Ohio's Project Dragonfly program is an online and in-person graduate program. Half of the coursework is facilitated by Miami University and half of the coursework is facilitated by the Phoenix Zoo. Course topics include: Foundations of Inquiry, Conservation in the Science Community, Technology in the Age of Biology, and Issues in Biodiversity. My thesis (called a Master Plan in AIP) is looking at partnerships between formal educators and non-formal institutions, and how these partnerships can utilize the inquiry process and STEM education to engage students in the STEM fields. The internship at the Arizona Science Center is part of my coursework, and topics covered in the curriculum I am creating include environmental stewardship, citizen science, sustainability, biological processes and community mapping.
