Weather Intern

FOX Chicago

As an intern with Meteorologist Amy Freeze, I am learning different ways of forecasting, preparing weather graphics, and working on numerous weather projects.  These include promoting the station recently becoming StormReady, preparing information for weather talks at the Shedd Aquarium on storm water & the Plainfield Tornado, as well as working on a blog about lightning strikes.

May 2009 - Aug 2009

Weather Intern

WGN Chicago

As an intern with Meteorologist Tom Skilling at WGN Chicago.  I feel I really got a different perspective of broadcasting as I watched him throughout the summer.  Spending the entire day either forecasting, broadcasting on the radio & TV, and working on the Tribune; he doesn't spend more than a few seconds preparing for the screen.  He just knows the story of the atmosphere before he steps on screen and describes it with its consequences for the region in a way people can understand, while throwing in random facts people like to hear about. I hope to use some of the aspects of his broadcasting in my career.

Jan 2009 - May 2009

Weather Intern

NBC 5 Chicago

As an intern with Meteorologist Ginger Zee, I look into how she forecasts, develops Green stories, and the inns & outs to being a morning meteorologists.  Getting a handle on the WSI system was the biggest accomplishment of this internship.  I learned how to create from scratch & edit weather slides, as well as run shows & create maps.
