Work experience

Jan 2010Apr 2010

Sales Assistant

This was my first job in the service industry. I took it up before school started as I thought it would be a good experience, and indeed it was. Working behind the counter was vastly different from working at a desk in a company. This experience taught me how to deal with people better, and also challenged me to do my best no matter what, because though working hours are long and tough, I still have to give my 100% to upkeep the company's reputation.

Keppel Corporation Limited

This company hired me and two friends as part of an internship program organized by my secondary school. I did mostly administrative work here. This was my first ever working experience, and I learned a lot about the logistics industry, and also learned a lot about the various roles in a company.

This experience taught me that the working world is different from what I had imagined it to be, and the energy and time required in the working world are far different from studying.

I started piano lessons at a young age of 5. It was through piano lessons where I learned music theory, rhythm and various musical skills which I find useful in dance as well as playing the guitar.
I picked up the guitar after being inspired by by brother around the age of 10. I took up a few lessons to learn the basic skills, then after I stopped lessons I learned more skills from other people and also on my own. I now play the guitar for the Youth Ministry in my church.
I started dancing when I was at the age of 10. I started with tap and modern dance. In Secondary School, I joined the MGS Dance Club and there I started ballet and learned the Grade 5 material. In the dance club, we were exposed to various kinds of dance such as hiphop, jazz and contemporary. For the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) 2009, I decided to join in the Indian Dance group, and we attained a gold award. In Ngee Ann Polytechnic, I auditioned to join the contemporary dance group known as D3 and got in, and I am currently training with them.

One of the biggest experiences for me would be the Mission trip to Cebu, Philippines which was organized by my church. We went there to help the poor villages, to  I learned to be grateful of what I have here in Singapore, and I also learned more about their culture.
