Worked alongside other EMS, Police, and Fire/Rescue Personnel in Emergency situation's involving traumatic injury, medical emergency, or other life hazards.  Provided Basic Life Support care to citizens of Fluvanna County including procedures such as: advanced airway management, medication administration, care for musculo-skeletal and soft-tissue trauma, cardiac monitoring/telemetry, resuscitation efforts, defibrillation, monitoring of vital signs, and assisting with Advanced Life Support interventions such as Intravenous fluid administration, cardiac monitoring/interpretation, advanced medication administration, defibrillation/pacing, and others as required.  Provided On-Scene management of EMS providers and implemented Incident Command structure as needed.  Assisted with EMS and public training operations.

Work alongside other Fire/Rescue, EMS and Police Personnel in emergency situations involving fire, immediate threat to life or health, accidents on state roadways, Hazardous Materials incidents, and other emergency situations as necessary.  Provided First responder Basic Life Support care(as outlined above) to the critically ill or injured, assisted with fire suppression operations on homes, buildings, vehicles, and brush fires, coordinated and assisted with extrication and packaging of patients involved in Motor Vehicle Collisions, contained and controlled hazardous material spills , established and maintained Incident Command as needed, and performed other emergency operations as necessary.

The PVCC emergency medical services (EMS) program prepares graduates to provide pre-hospital care as a paramedic under structured guidelines in emergency situations. The problem-solving process is used to direct care outcomes. The EMS Program is a four-semester program for students enrolled on a full-time basis. Part-time study is available and encouraged. The curriculum consists of both general studies and EMS level courses.  Upon completion, students are eligible for the National Registry Emergency Medical Technician: Paramedic Exam.
