who I am

I have been an Assistant and Goalkeeper Coach at the college level for thirteen seasons. My teams have won Conference Championships and participated in the NCAA National Tournament. As a player, I was one of the first Americans to play overseas, and a founding member of Orlando City Lions SC, now of Major League Soccer. As a writer, I've written about soccer for magazines such as Howler and XI Quarterly. My recent book 'Small Time: A Life in the Football Wilderness' was called "...an excellent prototype for any ex-player with a good story to tell..." by When Saturday Comes, and was the subject of a Sky Sports Online feature. When publications such as FourFourTwo, Rabona, and Champions Magazine (the official UEFA publication of the Champions League) want a quote about goalkeeping or the modern game, they reach out to me, bringing exposure and recognition to my  school's program. My blog 'The Goalkeepers' Union' was named by The Guardian newspaper as one of the top 100 soccer blogs to follow in 2011. Although I was a goalkeeper as a player, I am not just a goalkeeper coach. I have been a First Assistant at the college level, and a head coach at both the club and high school levels.
