A consultant on global politics, international development, and security affairs with Global Growth Advisors in New York City, Julius Nyang'oro helps clients achieve their desired professional objectives in countries across eastern, southern, and western Africa. Before joining Global Growth in 2012, he led the Department of African and Afro-American Studies at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill, overseeing its development to department status and managing 3,000 students and 20 faculty members each year. In addition to instructing UNC students directly as a full professor, Julius Nyang'oro engaged in a range of academic research and writing initiatives. He has also taught students as an adjunct faculty member at the Africa Center for Strategic Studies in Washington, D.C., and the Political Science Unit at the University of Asmara in Eritrea.
Over the course of his career, Julius Nyang'oro has authored or edited a number of books and monographs, including JK: A Political Biography of Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete and Discourses on Democracy: Africa in Comparative Perspective. Dr. Nyang'oro has also written dozens of book chapters, articles, and reviews.
