After 15 years as a marketing and research specialist, Julie Monson found success as owner of her own company, Julie F. Monson Marketing Research and Planning, in Shoreview, Minnesota. She has extensive knowledge of research principles and practices and has conducted a number of successful quantitative and qualitative studies for various clients. Her diverse clients and employers include nationally known brands such as Land O’ Lakes, Best Buy, and the University of Wisconsin.Julie Monson’s entry into the profession came shortly after she graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a Master of Business Administration. Hired by Land O’ Lakes in 1987, she successfully developed product strategy for the company’s light butter, which resulted in national expansion and an additional $14 million in annual sales. Monson next put her skills to work as Senior Account Planner at Martin/Williams Advertising in Minneapolis in 1994. There, she served as key leadership on several major accounts and was the driving force behind the Marketing Intelligence Group, a full-service research provider.Since 2001, Monson has been her own boss at Julie F. Monson Marketing Research and Planning. She takes on a number of important roles for clients, becoming a brand marketer, data analyst, and all-around problem solver with a knack for providing relevant and actionable consumer insight. Monson’s versatility has become a valuable asset as she forges professional relationships with international businesses, universities, advertising firms, and local and national brands. She has put her wide range of skills to use as she has conducted pioneering research for a unique online social teaching tool, developed food and beauty product packaging, developed repositioning strategies for major brands, services, and nonprofit groups; engineered a number of brand-tracking studies; and led strategic teams to prioritize multiple product and consumer initiatives.
