Hired to provide transition and succession leadership to the Founder and to facilitate improvements in financial performance.

Maine Machine Products Company is a 75,000 squ. ft. custom precision manufacturing facility that provides prototype & production engineering and manufacturing services for domestic and select international OEM's. Principle services: Engineered tooling & fixture design; CNC machined components; Electro-mechanical assembly & test including Clean-room assembly.

Primary focus involves the review of new & emerging business opportunities; directing and participating in preparation of engineering estimates & proposals; presentation(s) to prospective customers; negotiation of contracts; leadership role in project planning and launch of new programs into the plant.

  • Most Recent Program:Developed and co-negotiated successful international manufacturing proposal then successfully launched the multi-year ($ 5M-$10M/yr) program: 81 p/n’s; configuration mgt through FTP sites; major supply chain activities; FAI milestones; engineering processes, tooling, modeling & programming; capital investment of $ 2.5 M.

Guided the company through (2) major recessions; major expansion of technical capability & services; several physical plant expansions; significant expansion of market penetration, and a near tripling of run-rate annual revenue to ~ $ 40 M.

  • Lead company through 250 + % growth in sales revenue ($ 13 M à $ 35+ M) through expanded/advanced technology and cellular manufacturing techniques. Orchestrated significant capital budget and investment(s) to facilitate the growth.
  • Lead company through evolution of ‘management system’ from MIL-Spec- 45208 to ISO-9001:2000 (initial registration in 1996; added AS 9100 registration in 2007); this effort also included implementation of fully integrated ERP system (Epicor – Vantage).
  • Re-marketed company as value-added supplier of electro-mechanical assembly and OEM product management services (from traditional piece-part manufacturer).
  • Successful implementation of value-added electromechanical assembly & test capabilities enabling revenue growth from ($ 1- $ 2 M/yr)à ($ 15 M - $ 20 M/yr)
  • Lead the successful transition ofTexas-based legacy business (multi-plant) to an in-house OEM -managed enterprise generating ($ 4 - $ 5M) in annual revenue.
  • Negotiated business opportunities with major tier-1 corporations including: Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, Lam Research, Dresser, and Tyco (Defense, Semi, Oil & Gas, Telecom).
  • Facilitated roll-out of Lean/Six Sigma to entire facility as the foundation for continuous improvement for the company going forward. Instituted balanced scorecard metrics for the company as part of the program.
  • Elevated strategic planning function(s) in the organization including off-site and professionally facilitated sessions. Significantly enhanced and expanded budgeting process and accountability commensurate with significant growth of the company.

Supported 75,000 squ. ft. of manufacturing space (including 50+ CNC machining centers in all manner of ‘cells’ and stand-alone configurations) with an engineering team consisting of degreed and ‘applied’ manufacturing engineers flexing between 8-14 strong.

Coordinated cost estimation; project proposal/presentation to the customer; project management with ‘Microsoft Project’ and detailed spreadsheet analysis; kick-off and ongoing progress meetings; coordination of supply chain contributions; domestic and international travel; preparation and adherence to budget(s); and in some instances administering significant capital investments.Also coordinated part modeling, process planning, rapid prototyping, tool & fixture design, CNC programming (including 5+ axes), process ‘cpk’ capability studies, and ongoing real-time cycle time analysis.

  • Introduced Rapid Prototyping to the company as a critical, early involvement, tool for new and emerging opportunities.
  • Facilitated Technology Center initiative with machine tool distributor to enhance introduction of new technology/equipment to the company at minimal up-front cost.

  • Implemented engineering estimating software (Costimator) program facilitating standardization of process and improved floor process documentation
  • Guided evolution of 2D-Cad design (principal AutoCAD) & CNC programming to full 3-D modeling and 5-axis simultaneous programming (SolidWorks, Catia, TekSoft/CAMWorks); substantial capabilities were developed with very complex components & assemblies.
