Founder and owner of a high-tech business. Kaleidoscope Consulting specializes in providing videoconferencing products and support for businesses, K-12 schools and Higher Education institutions. We initiate, plan, execute, and deliver complex technical projects for our clients. In this context, I also:

  • Own and operate VTCStream, an infrastructure as a service (IAAS) company that delivers and resells video streaming, multipoint conferencing, and hosting services videoconferencing resellers around the world.  
  • Install and configure videoconferencing infrastructure devices and endpoints made by Polycom, LifeSize, Radvision, and Cisco as a contracted field engineer for VCAV and Video Insights. I have worked on over 300 videoconferencing installation projects.

  • While on the IDA, I developed a grant program to distribute IDA funds to economic development projects in Boone County.

Missouri Interactive Telecommunications Education Network
  • Coordinator for a distance learning network that uses videoconferencing technology to share teachers and students among rural school districts.
  • Responsibilities included: installing new equipment, training teachers, scheduling telecommunications network, trouble-shooting technical problems, equipment maintenance, and grant writing.
  • I lead the technical expansion of the network from the original six schools to over eighteen schools.
  • I managed all technical projects for the network including new classroom installations, selection and installation of an MCU (multipoint control unit) and network upgrades.    
  • I co-authored the influential book Virtual Classrooms, and consulted with distance education programs across the nation.

SBC Telecommunity Center at Central Methodist University
  • Served as the Technical Director for the Fayette Telecommunity Center during its first year of operation. I was responsible for maintaining the center’s Internet connections, phone system, NT and AppleShare servers, computer lab, and videoconferencing equipment.
  • I was a key member of the team that established the Telecommunity Center in Fayette, working with Central Methodist University administrators and Southwestern Bell management to negotiate the center’s location and to select and install the technologies at the Telecommunity Center.
  • I achieved the Certified Videoconferencing Engineer (CVE) certification from PictureTel.

  • Worked in a biomedical research laboratory that specializes in the study of age-related blindness and an inherited genetic disease known as Battens disease.
  • Laboratory experiments utilized a variety of modern biomedical techniques.
  • I coordinated tissue exchanges with researchers in Sweden and various laboratories and tissue banks in the US.

Senior Research Lab Technician

University of Missouri-Columbia
  • Part of a research team that studied visual systems and retinal degeneration, using the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, as an animal model.
  • Responsibilities included: designing and conducting experiments, preparing posters and presentations for national meetings, writing scientific papers for publication, and assisting in the writing of grant proposals.
  • I established an image analysis center and integrated it into the laboratory’s research program.
  • I traveled with lab PI to the University of Wisconsin to conduct research using the UW High-Voltage Electron Microscope (HVEM) and Low-Voltage Scanning Electron Microscope (LVSEM).
