                        Software Engineer - Developer Program

                        Aepona (an Intel Company)

                        The Aepona Developer Program team works closely with partners using Aepona's service creation products, focusing on the Internet of Things. This includes educating developers, providing advice on designing services and solutions using Aepona's Visual Service Designer (VSD) and developing custom components (Java + Camel) to enable integration into the customer's environment. Involves implementing an initial Proof of Concept solution and then working closely with the customer's developers, demonstrating how to extend/implement the solution and thereby become self sufficient in Visual Service Designer.


                        • Successfully integrated VSD with Intel's Internet of Things Reference Implementation
                        • Developed and delivered training to sales engineers and solution architects

                        Graduate Software Engineer - Visual Service Designer

                        Aepona (an Intel Company)

                        Visual Service Designer (VSD) is a browser based graphical IDE for designing and creating dynamic services, to run on the Aepona Service Creation and Delivery platform.


                        • Worked as a developer on the VSD including making design and implementation decisions
                        • Identified the reason behind a large number of bugs in the application, introduced a standard for testing Angular directives and controllers (Jasmine + Mocks).
                        • Provided example directives and controllers to demonstrate our best practices.
                        • Developed helper classes, to make testing the application with Selenium easier and more reliable/repeatable, which dramatically reduced the number of reported defects in VSD
                        • Became the "go to guy" for queries regarding VSD, from both the developers and users of VSD
                        • Instrumental in helping the team become the first to successfully adopt Agile working practices in the Intel Belfast office

                        Graduate Software Engineer - Strategic Projects

                        The Strategic projects team were responsible for the rapid creation of demos and Proof of Concepts, to demonstrate the features and capabilities of the Aepona products in both enterprise and Internet of Things (IOT) opportunities within Intel and with external customers.


                        • Deployed a clustered installation of the Aepona platform into AWS, which had not previously been attempted
                        • Overcame issues that arose from deploying in AWS, around using EC2 and RDS for this installation
                        • Integrated this installation with Intel's Internet of Things Reference Implementation
                        • Developed customer Proof of Concept to map OpenStack API to customers proprietary API, which was part of then vendors selection process and led to sales

                        Final year project


                        This project was an conference call application designed to showcase the Aepona products, for use by pre-sales and marketing. Features included scheduling meetings using contacts from both Webex and Google, sending reminders using SMS and location capabilities and initiating group conference calls from the application. The project involved the design, implementation, testing and deployment of the application.


                        • This project was delivered on time to the specified requirements and included an extra feature to check the network status of contacts
                        • The application was demonstrated at the Aepona stand at Mobile World Congress 2013 and received a lot of interest from prospective customers

                        Placement Software Engineer - Strategic Projects


                        In addition to demos and Proof of Concepts with telecommunication operators, this included strategic collaborations with a number of standards bodies (GSMA, and Smart Cells Forum).


                        • Got up to speed on new technologies being used in a very fast moving agile team
                        • Carried out a product incubation for a REST API console using the Swagger framework
                        • Developer support for Aepona and customer developer programs
                        • Platform deployments, support and maintenance
                        • Liaising with the Small Cells Forum to propose a standard API
