Led a team of 7 people as Head of HR for two (2) foundries near Birmingham, Alabama (~1,000 employees, $350 M). Recruited to facilitate financial turn-around of both facilities.

  • Planned and executed reductions in force to streamline departmental workflows and reduce annual payroll by >$2M.
  • Implemented processes to decrease turnover and improve hiring effectiveness (“batting average”), resulting in net decreases in turnover of approximately 23% (hourly) and 59% (salary).
  • Drove absenteeism to 46% below and turnover 80% below national manufacturing averages, despite extreme foundry environment.
  • Collaborated with departmental management to create talent development committees, career dialogue processes, and succession planning.
  • Created or updated more than 170 job descriptions, standardized job titles, verified FLSA classifications, and evaluated appropriate salary ranges for all roles.
  • Developed module based learning to improve effectiveness of front-line supervision and expedite onboarding of new hires and promotions. Directly instructed approximately 70 supervisors in revised approach to fundamentals of supervision, including coaching for performance and legal issues.
  • Revised Employee Handbook for first time in 5 years in light of legal and marketplace changes.
  • Reduced employee complaints to EEOC & OSHA to nearly zero while obtaining record-setting productivity by retraining supervisors with employee-first philosophy.

  • Exceeded expectations in favorably resolving various Title VII and worker’s compensation lawsuits.
  • Addressed EEOC, EPA, and OSHA matters promptly, coordinated with outside counsel.
  • Interfaced with local, state, and federal agencies to accomplish objectives of USA/CAN headquarters in Detroit, MI and global headquarters in Monterrey, Mexico.
  • Facilitated immigration process to integrate members of our Canadian and European plants into the Alabama organization.
  • Standardized language in communications related to recruiting, non-selection, offer letters, relocation packages, and reclassification to provide consistency and mitigate legal risks.
