King’s College


After graduating from King’s College with a Bachelor’s degree in English, Joseph Chairge entered the building supply industry and built a 25-year career as an owner and manager. At present, Mr. Chairge fulfills his duties as a General Manager with Dirlam Brothers Lumber, Inc. In this capacity, Mr. Chairge manages 35 employees across several locations, supervises the sales activity of eight sales representatives, and is responsible for the profit and loss and sales target attainment across the company’s six locations. Through his expertise, the company performed better than the industry average during the recent down economy, with revenue down just 10 percent, with the industry down 25 percent.Prior to joining Dirlam Brothers, Joseph Chairge owned and operated Pittston Lumber and Manufacturing, located in Pittston, Pennsylvania. Mr. Chairge acquired the company in 1988, just one year after graduating college. For 19 years, he led the organization and was responsible for the entire operation. Through his leadership, the firm increased revenue by 45 percent and total accounts by 50 percent. Dirlam Brothers purchased Mr. Chairge’s company in 2007, at which point he assumed the General Manager position.Joseph Chairge remains active in his community. Closely tied to the local YMCA, Mr. Chairge previously served two terms as the president of the local board and has coached youth basketball teams through the organization. He also coached youth basketball through the local Community Youth Center and various Catholic institutions. Mr. Chairge belongs to the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Pittston and has contributed his energy to fundraising events and picnics. To stay abreast of local business trends and generate networking opportunities, Mr. Chairge maintains affiliations with the local Chamber of Commerce (past board member), the Rotary Club, the Knights of Columbus, and multiple local golf and tennis clubs.
