As a nurse extern, I'm responsible for doing vitals, rounding on patients, assisting with ADLs, giving baths, turning patients, feeding, and drawing labs. I'm also able to insert IVs and catheters if the opportunity appears. I also help in training new patient care techs and nurse externs.

Nursing Skills and Experiences

Over two years experience on a progressive care unit. Two years clinical experience in Med/Surg, OB, Pedi, and high acuity care. Skills acquired include bathing, assistance in transferring, IV starts, lab draws, PICC line care, properly checking vitals, checking of blood glucose, drawing and giving medication in PO, IV, IM, and rectal routes, assessment of patient from head to toe as well as focused, and applying of dressings to wounds. Lab Draw Champion on current PCU2 floor. Received additional training for finger stick lab draws. Chosen as one of two nurse externs to evaluate new butterfly needles. Often called upon by other nurses to help with lab draws on hard-to-stick patients. Fluently able to communicate with patients in English and Spanish in a diverse setting.
