A six-day celebration of independent culture, Noise Pop 2014 will be held in February and March 2014. The festival will feature more than 150 alternative bands, as well as a film series, local designer fair, and art shows. Co-founded 22 years ago by Jordan Kurland and Kevin Arnold, the festival showcases San Francisco’s independent music scene. The festival began in 1993 as a one-day event featuring five bands. Over the years, musical legends such as Bob Mould, Yo La Tengo, and Yoko Ono and The Plastic Ono Band have performed at Noise Pop. The festival regularly features emerging artists, many of whom have later gone on to become well-known names. This year’s festival will include Dr. Dog, Real Estate, Mark Kozelek, Audion, and Com Truise. In keeping with the festival’s tradition of incorporating a variety of artistic mediums into the experience, Noise Pop will also feature musicians who create art. San Francisco’s indie cinemas will host films that feature independent music and focus on youth culture, including Mistaken for Strangers, Death Metal Angola, and Swim Little Fish Swim. After several showings of the film, the director of the movie will be on hand to discuss it and answer questions from the audience.
