Jon Roberts has been City Manager of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, since February 2009. Steamboat Springs is a city that attracts tourists with its winter and summer activities and has a considerable number of permanent residents. The city has a private ski resort; hiking and mountain-biking trails; a city-owned ski mountain that trains athletes for Alpine, Nordic, and ski-jumping events; active river recreation; and a lots of open space. Steamboat Springs manages and owns an airport, water and wastewater system, and public transit. Since he became City Manager, Jon Roberts has accomplished much. He has cut spending by over 40 percent without significantly reducing the quantity or quality of services. Jon Roberts has enhanced the city’s credit ratings and secured funding for over $20 million of improvements at the base of the public ski mountain. He has also obtained $20 million in financing for water and wastewater improvements and purchased Emerald Mountain, which gives the city 586 acres of new open land. In his everyday management role, Jon Roberts has hired a new Public Works Director, Finance Director, and Planning Director; executed the Hometown Heroes Parade, and created four balanced budgets for Steamboat Springs. Jon Roberts completed coursework in a Master of Business Administration program from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University Worldwide and received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, California. He is a member of the Steamboat Springs Rotary and the International City Manager’s Association and has professional licenses from California to practice as a civil engineer and land surveyor.
