Attending the University of Florida after graduating from high school, John E. Vermazen expanded his interest in economics, world events, and political science by majoring in history. As he gained a new perspective into the cultures and interests of foreign countries, Mr. Vermazen earned a 3.4 grade-point average in his major and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 2011. He complemented his coursework with memberships in the University Economics Society and the campus’ Amnesty International club.Apart from his coursework, John Vermazen developed his interpersonal skills at several professional and volunteer engagements. Mr. Vermazen interacted with the public as a reading tutor for elementary school kids, assisting the children on a one-on-one basis and during group sessions. Mr. Vermazen served customers at a franchised UPS shipping store and earned a promotion to junior manager. Currently, Mr. Vermazen serves a variety of roles as a managing crewmember of the technical and production teams at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center on the University of Florida campus. Here he interacts with his team, handling event-day assembly and security needs for Gator basketball, Gator football, concerts, and official press conferences for the school’s president.In addition to his customer service ability, John Vermazen is technically proficient with a range of equipment. As the store’s junior manager, he operated the computer system at the UPS store without supervision. At the events center, Mr. Vermazen leads the crew in preparing for events and ensures they meet time-sensitive deadlines while assembling the necessary equipment. As a student he gained familiarity with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word and is conversant in Spanish.
