Possessing more than 30 years of leadership experience, Dr. John Metallo holds a consultative role with the Albany-based New York State Department of Education. Dr. John Metallo is integrally involved in developing and securing the approval of professional performance reviews, conducted annually in school districts across the state. His past experience in New York state public education encompasses positions as Superintendent of the Middleburgh Central School District and as Principal of Albany High School.Dr. Metallo earned his Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Philosophy from Niagara University in New York. He accepted responsibilities as English teacher at Gloversville High School in 1972, where he continued to work for 14 years. From 1978 to 1985, he also served as Athletic Director at Gloversville High School, reflecting his ongoing commitment to coaching cross country, basketball, football, and track and field. He additionally held roles as Director of Adult Education and Dean of Students during his last years with the school.From 1989 to 1996, Dr. John Metallo served as Superintendent and High School Principal of Fort Plain Central School District. He led Mayfield Jr.-Sr. High School’s entire operations, helping the school earn distinction as a New York State School of Excellence. Dr. Metallo next undertook a role as Superintendent of Genesee Valley Central School District, overseeing the reorganization and merging of two school districts into the newly created Genesee Valley Central district.As Principal of Albany High School from 1998 to 2001, Dr. John Metallo oversaw a comprehensive urban high school comprising nearly 3,000 students and faculty members. Dr. Metallo performed lead administrative functions in guiding the $40 million high school phase of a nearly $200 million City School District of Albany renovation and construction project. He earned the Distinguished Service Award from the New York State Athletic Administrators Association. In his free time, Dr. John Metallo enjoys golfing and coaching.
