Award-winning physician John Gerancher, M.D., has been contributing to the field of anesthesia for more than 20 years. Dr. Gerancher most recently served as Professor of Anesthesiology at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine. While fulfilling this academic role, he also acted as a Medical Director and Section Head at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.Over the course of his career, Dr. Gerancher has held several academic appointments. After working as an Anesthesiologist at Medical Park Hospital from 1995 to 1996, he was named Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Wake Forest University. He later became Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesia at Stanford University, where he continued on along the academic track for several years before returning to Wake Forest. Dr. Gerancher has served on a number of academic committees and review boards. He sat on both the Education Committee and the Scientific Program Committee for the American Society of Regional Anesthesia. In addition, he worked as an invited Reviewer for the publications Anesthesiology and Anesthesia & Analgesia. Certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology, Dr. Gerancher maintains several professional memberships, and has received numerous industry awards. He is a member of the International Anesthesia Research Society, the American Society of Regional Anesthesia, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, and the North Carolina Society of Anesthesiologists. He has been recognized for teaching excellence at Stanford and for his dedication to teaching at Wake Forest University. His name appeared on the Best Doctors in America list from 2005 to 2010.John Gerancher graduated from Haverford College with a Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology. He completed his MD at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.
