Established in 1984, this billion dollar entertainment features a dramatic mix of street and circus performance. A global phenomenon, Cirque du Soleil involves acrobats, costume designers, and choreographers. Aside from offering breath-stopping performances, Cirque du Soleil initiated the Cirque du Monde, a social circus program that’s part of its Global Citizenship initiative. Aiming to help at-risk young people, the program combines education and circus techniques to encourage them get back on track. Through the partnership of Cirque du Soleil coordinators and social circus instructors, the program was able motivate South African kids who are born with HIV and those held in juvenile prisons in Mongolia, to name some examples. The program provides the much-needed springboard that will catapult these kids from their hard life to the magical world of circus. Speaking of which John also created his own program called the Demetra Brain Recovery Foundation that helps brain injury victims throughout New York City.
