Director of Special Services

Alabama School of Mathematics and Science

Provide leadership for all functions of Special Services, including Admissions, Public Relations, Registrar's Office, the Adventures In Math and Science summer program, and Campus Security. Recruit students from across the state of Alabama, primarily through speaking engagements, personal interviews, video production and web development, and phone conversations. In first year, increased applications received from 290 to 480. Assist president's office in developing, implementing, and monitoring organizational strategic plan. Prepare and maintain statistics regarding enrollment, geographical distribution of students, financial aid, and attrition. Present these statistics, when appropriate, to the administration, faculty, and board of trustees. Direct, promote, and evaluate program for Adventures In Math and Science summer outreach program for middle school students.

Alabama School of Mathematics and Science

Courses: Journalism and Yearbook. Develop curriculum and instruct a journalism course that examines the fundamental principles of gathering, writing, reporting, and editing the news and explores various theoretical approaches to understanding and explaining the communication process and how it impacts society. Lead team of students to publish full-color yearbook using Adobe In-Design and Photoshop software.

Provided ongoing school assessments and evaluations of learning programs. Interpreted test data; made recommendations based on results. Developed long-term goals for school aligned to district’s vision for growth. Served as a resource to teachers; modeled instruction; team taught lessons. Observed teachers; provided feedback regarding their classroom instruction. Planned and provided professional development for teachers. Worked closely with principal to promote high achievement and positive school climate.

Buras High School

Courses: World History, Civics, Web Design, and Louisiana History. Head coach boy's basketball, assistant coach track. Secured $24,000 in funding for a school computer lab by engaging local business partners

Wrote and edited articles for a world-wide daily newspaper that has won seven Pulitzer Prizes for journalism.
