One of the foremost philatelists in the United States, John Apfelbaum brings a lifetime of industry experience to his work as President and Chief Executive Officer of Earl P.L. Apfelbaum, Inc. in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania. Mr. Apfelbaum began to lay the foundations for his career in philately while working for his grandfather, Earl Apfelbaum. Following high school, John Apfelbaum gained admission to the University of Pennsylvania, where between 1971 and 1975 he studied history, among other subjects. An outstanding student at Penn, Mr. Apfelbaum graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in History, after which he joined Earl P.L. Apfelbaum, Inc. on a full-time basis.Since then, John Apfelbaum has distinguished himself as an expert in the field of philately, running one of the best-known stamp collecting firms worldwide. As President and CEO of Earl P.L. Apfelbaum, Inc., he holds oversight for all operations of his multimillion-dollar company, ensuring the authenticity of each acquisition, holding public auctions, and maintaining a highly diversified collection of rare and valuable stamps. An author as well, Mr. Apfelbaum, along with fellow philatelist and reporter David Louis Lidman, wrote The World of Stamps & Stamp Collecting, published by Charles Scribner’s Sons in 1981. Today,John Apfelbaum continues to share his considerable knowledge of philately through contributions to trade publications and regular articles on his blog, JohnApfelbaum.Blogspot.com. He is licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Auctioneer Examiners, and first earned his certification in 1976.
