John Vincent Baker

Lecturer - Umeå University

I have held the post of the British Council ELT Associate to Sweden.

Tasks involved seeking opportunities to deliver British Council Teacher Training courses and workshops. These included, but are not limited to; ninety minute workshops on teaching grammar, learner autonomy, teaching process writing; half and full day workshops working with “special needs” learners, such as those with dyslexia; and online courses in how to teach young learners and how to usie web 2.0 opportunities in teaching English.

I have aquired competence from working with pupils with special needs within the Swedish educational system, both when working as a resource teacher in special pedagogic teaching English, as well as in the role of a personal assistant following the junior school curriculum for a number of years. When drawing on this experience that I have attained, I feel that I have acquired some of the skills necessary to become specialised in this field of education.

The school placement period of teacher education is an area  that I have been involved with personally for a number of years. The opportunity of researching the educational requirements for special pedagogic in the Swedish educational system may also be seen as further academic aptitude.
