As the Principal at the Fahari Academy Charter School in Brooklyn, New York, Joanne Falinski continues to make positive contributions to New York schools, as she has done for nearly 40 years. Having earned a Doctor of Education in Educational Administration and Supervision from Syracuse University, she now holds permanent New York State teaching certifications in N-6 Elementary Education, and K-12 Music Education. Her additional permanent certifications include School Administrator and Supervisor, as well as School District Administrator. In addition to her current role, Joanne Falinski’s ample history in education has included consultative work, professional service, and dozens of presentations. As Fahari Academy Charter School’s Principal, Joanne Falinski hires, trains, and evaluates staff; develops and supervises all the fifth through eighth grade programs; and coordinates the school’s assessment programs and professional development. When her career began, Ms. Falinski worked as an elementary school teacher herself; although she holds a doctorate and has had extensive educational experiences, she relates to staff in an authentic, meaningful way because of her years spent as a classroom teacher. During the course of more than 15 years, Joanne Falinski spent time sharing her expertise in education through numerous consulting positions. Most recently, she worked as an external evaluator for the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Curriculum Development Project, examining “The Shaping Role of Place in African American Biography.” Prior to her role with the NEH, Ms. Falinski acted as lead researcher, curriculum consultant, and instructor and facilitator on several special projects for New York institutes of learning.Because of her valued experience as an educator, Joanne Falinski has been an invited reviewer for many educational publications. These have included publications from the National Society for the Study of Education, the New York Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, and the Association for Constructivist Teaching. Joanne Falinski frequently presents at educational conferences across the nation. She is particularly passionate about the uses of digital storytelling within education and has given many presentations on the topic during recent years.
