Bachelor of Science

The University of Alabama

The University of Alabama has allowed me to succeed in the classroom. The professors and tools available for assistance are key factors I credit towards my success here. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Fall 2010, graduating Summa Cum Laude. I am now back at the university taking pre-requisite courses in order to apply to a Physician Assistant program.

Baylor University

I attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas for three years until I transferred to The University of Alabama. I value the time I had at Baylor and feel very fortunate to have attended but ultimately I matured educationally as a student upon attending The University of Alabama.

Student Assistant

The University of Alabama

Working at the same company that I attend classes makes the transition through my day easy. I can alternate my title from student assistant to student throughout the day and accomplish many tasks. This job has allowed me to put my time management skills to the test. I have also been able to build relationship with the faculty and therefore receive advice and guidance.

Store Clerk

Manna Grocery and Deli

Working at Manna was another job I was fortunate enough to receive. This job involved a lot of training and ongoing educational workshops and learning. Since Manna is an organic and nutritional grocery store and deli, many customers who shop are concerned about their health and diet. I was constantly being asked questions that were sometimes out of my comfort zone or that I did not know the answer to. With this job, I learned the importance of being able to say "I don't know but I will find the answer if I can" and then not stopping until I did.

Nursery Care Worker

Highland Baptist Church

When I worked in the nursery of my church I was in charge of looking after babies while their parents attended classes. I worked nights so my classes were uninterrupted. This job taught me to cater to each person's needs. One set of parents would give me their instructions about their child which would be completely different from another set of parents. I learned to recognize the differences, execute them and then make sure my responsiveness to the parent's was definite- they needed to know that their instructions were followed.

Pharmacy Technician

CVS Pharmacy

Working as a Pharmacy Technician at a hospital (Denton Regional Medical Center) was very different than working at the pharmacy in CVS. CVS Pharmacy is the retail side of the industry so there was actual customer interaction versus a patient in the hospital. This job taught me conflict resolution, language barriers, how to work in a fast paced environment and on-the-job group work. Unlike in the hospital, I handled the cash register and so I gained money handling experience as well.

Pharmacy Technician

Denton Regional Medical Center

Prior to graduating high school, I took the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam to receive my certificate. I worked at Denton Regional Medical Center during breaks I had from attending college. I thoroughly enjoyed this job because I had many responsibilities. I was in charge of making IV's and piggy back IV's (pgIV) for the majority of my shifts so, a lot of my time was focused on making sure the right dosage and correct proportion of medicine/nutrients were being inserted and then delivered to the patients. Other responsibilities included packing pills, delivering medicine, checking the pharmacy's inventory and checking each nurse's station inventory. I walked away from this job with a lot more than a pay check. I was able to see all types of health professionals working together and many times shadow them while I was doing my job at the same time.
