1996 - 2001  Director of Instruction - Continental Country Club - Flagstaff, AZ

After a college golf career on the third-ranked Brigham Young University golf team (including teammates Johnny Miller, Buddy Allin and Mike Reid), I have worked in professional golf in every imaginable capacity, from entry level shop assistant to head professional at public and resort golf courses in Utah, California, Nevada and Arizona.  Represented all of the courses at which I worked in local tournaments, compiling a successful local tournament career and winning events in all three sections of the PGA where I have worked.  At Recreation Park, which was at the time the third busiest golf course in America, I steadily became their most productive instructor, training the young Paul Goydos and actually teaching each of the other professionals on the staff as well as the Head Golf Professional.  I had regular students from as far away as San Francisco, San Diego and Las Vegas while at Recreation Park.  Developed and owned a small market golf management company under the auspices of which I operated both the Kanab, Utah and the Mesquite, Nevada facilities.  I was the first professional at Coral Cliffs Golf Course, and established operating and maintenance programs that are still in place today.  The Peppermill Palms Golf facility went from a deficit of almost $500,000 to break-even during my tenure.  At both Coral Cliffs and Glen Canyon I had over 100 juniors annually in my junior instructional programs, out of which several high school champions and college scholarships emerged. Emphasized instruction in my later career.  Authored the book Break 80 Golf, and developed the Break 80 Golf School while at the Continental Country Club in Flagstaff.  While there I developed a strong following from the greater Phoenx area.  Still in regular touch with Paul Goydos, now of the PGA Tour and ranked in the top 60 in the world.  I give private instruction now to long time students on an exclusive basis.

JB Hunter Corporation

The JB Hunter Corporation is our closely held corporation.  We brought the restaurant called Slackers under the corporate banner in 2005, having operated it as a sole proprietorship since August of 2001.  We sold the restaurant in July of 2008.  The JB Hunter Corporation now has the Hunter Putter in production, emphasizing internet marketing nationwide.  See

The Sandwich Place / Slackers

Re-acquired this declining restaurant, refurbished the quality and service, moved to a larger location, changed the name, tripled the sales along the way, and sold it for a substantial profit. At the time of sale, Slackers was the busiest lunch spot in the Lake Powell Area, had 15 employees, and enjoyed a following of repeat customers from literally all over the world.

Antelope Canyon Tours

Purchased fledgling tour business from people leaving the area. One of 5 licensees of the Navajo Nation Park Service allowed to take visitors to the incredible Antelope Slot Canyon. Built the business with an emphasis on personal service and the provision of a spectacular, informative and intimate experience in the canyon. We became the #1 recommended Antelope Canyon tour company, but overcrowded bookings allowed by the Navajo Parks and Recreation department made our customer service goals increasingly difficult to achieve. Sold at a profit to an enterprising member of the Navajo Tribe.

Front Page

Owned and operated a small office products/book store, from the same space from which we ran the tour business.  This portion of the business needed to be nursed along for our entire tenure.  The town, with a population of only 7000 people, could not really support a store of this type.  Having sold it in 2004, both the office supply and bookstore have virtually disappeared.
