Dear sir/madam,

I am contacting you to explore whether an opportunity might exist to continue my teaching practice at New College Lanarkshire.  I am currently finishing my probationary year at Biggar High School where I have been teaching Art and Design.  I have a very flexible working schedule and would be available for daytime, evening and weekend teaching.

I am a fully committed and passionate teacher who strives to engender this passion in those that I teach.  I have high expectations of every learner, adopt a variety of teaching methods and use differentiated resources to challenge and inspire all learners whilst aiming to deliver the experiences and outcomes laid out in Curriculum for Excellence.  I am experienced at developing and delivering the curriculum for both National and Higher qualifications. Assessing, recording and reporting are an integral part of my practice and I adopt a variety of AiFL strategies to confirm pupils are achieving the desired learning outcomes and are prepared for examination.

Having graduated in Textile Design from Heriot-Watt University, I understand all aspects of the creative process.  My primary skills are screen printing, digital printing, pattern cutting and dye mixing, however I am also a confident drawer/mark maker, photographer and graphic designer.  I understand the role technology can have in the creative process, and as a result, I am confident using many of the applications on the Adobe Creative Cloud.

I would be a strong addition to any team as I am an organised professional with good communication, team work skills and self-management skills.  Teaching is my passion and I want to continue having a positive impact on the young people in my care.

I am excited at the possibility of being involved in further education and would appreciate the opportunity to share the skills I have by contributing to the learning environment at New College Lanarkshire.

Thank you for your consideration.

Yours faithfully,

Jillian Ramage

Team Leader

Tesco PLC

I was a Team Leader in Tesco for over 4 years where my role involved overseeing the department's daily activities, problem solving efficiently as issues arise, meeting company targets/customer promises and liaising between staff and management to ensure clear and effective communication and time management. In addition it was my responsibility to continually train colleagues on safe and legal and health and safety procedures and completed all relevant documentation annually. My involvement in colleague training helped me realise my passion for teaching and gave me the self-assurance to pursue this as a career. Although I could not see a future in retail, my time at Tesco developed my confidence as a leader and provided me with key skills that have helped me become a successful teacher.

Skills

Communication

I use my strong interpersonal skills when demonstrating techniques and communicating with pupils.  I give both verbal and written feedback to ensure pupils are clear how to improve and what next steps are. I have developed professional relationships and good communication links with the rest of my department, faculty and wider school. In addition I communicate with parents detailing their child’s progress through detailed and accurate reports that highlight the pupil’s strengths, areas for development, achievements and their level of progression.

Team  Work

I work collaboratively  and effectively with colleagues in my department, wider school and also outside agencies such as Active schools, Active Breaks and Home School Partnership colleagues.  Together my colleagues and I have developed and improved the department curriculum for National and Higher qualifications ensure a smooth transition and continuity from broad general education into the senior phase
