Volunteer; Atrium and Cardiac Unit; work with supporting children hospitalized due to illness ranging from minor to terminal; delivering papers and transporting patients to different units for x-rays and other medical procedures; administrative support such as filing paperwork and answering phones

MEDcare Urgent Care

Scribe; work with medical doctors in a fast-paced Urgent Care setting to create and maintain accurate document of patient encounters using DocuTAP. Documentation includes: history of present illness, review of systems, detailed physical exams, ordering and recording results of radiology and lab testing, writing prescriptions, referrals, and selecting final diagnoses with proper ICD-9 code. Coding includes selecting CPT codes with appropriate ICD-9 codes for procedures/treatments performed and selecting an office visit code based on recommendations by DocuTAP. 

Secondary Responsibilities include; triage and discharge patients, simple wound cleansing/dressing, initiating nebulizer breathing treatments, initiating and disconnecting IV fluids, running and documenting CLIA labs, and assisting the MD with procedures such as abscess incision and drainage and wound repair. 

Special Projects; Chosen for special assignment to work with MEDcare’s CEO, founding Doctors, and Training Coordinator to develop a framework for the Medical Scribe hiring and training. I took on the responsibility for the creation of training materials to include Medical Scribe requirements and a training outline for each knowledge area. These materials set the stage for development of the Scribe curriculum.

Nason Medical Center

Scribe; work closely with board-certified Emergency Physicians and Physician Assistants to create and maintain accurate documentation of patient encounters using Nextgen Electronic Medical Records (EMR). Nextgen EMR documentation includes: history of present illness, review of systems, detailed physical exams, ordering and recording results of radiology and lab testing, writing prescriptions, referrals, and selecting final diagnoses with proper ICD-9 code, patient education, work/school notes, and referrals. 

Secondary responsibilities include; Triage patients: obtaining vital signs, acquiring a simple history of illness, identifying any home medications and recording in the chart along with past medical history and allergies, and determining the acuity of the visit. Discharging patients: review of discharge instructions, review of patient information, problem solving any issues the patient may have in implementing his/her treatment plan, discontinuation of any IV access established during the visit and dressing application. 

Special Assignment as Scribe Trainer; work closely with the scribe manager to teach new hires the process and importance of creating and maintaining accurate chart notes using Nextgen EMR through a four week training program.
