Senior Product Manager - Controls and Electronics

Hussmann ( A Panasonic Business)

Responsible for product management (ideation, strategy development, execution) for all controls and electronics products within Hussmann - a $1B+ business of Panasonic focused on refrigeration technology including controls and monitoring.

Major responsibilities  and achievements include:

  1. Launched multiple controls products  within 2  years of taking on role - including Corelink, a product that had been stalled and in development for 4+ years prior to my arrival
  2. Lead commercialization strategies for Hussmann’s first IoT based energy and performance monitoring and management service. This included creating pricing strategies, working with Engineering to prioritize the development backlog, and crafting the go to market strategy for the solution.
  3. Developed a comprehensive business case and platform strategy for controller product lines to reduce the number of different platforms from 8 to 4 resulting in simplified manufacturing and field support and a lower overall cost.
  4. Lead the development of detailed product market requirements across all product lines resulting in an across the board reduction of suppliers and improved supply chain performance.
  5. Drive value engineering projects on existing product lines .  These projects have resulted in reducing costs by up to 22% on some projects.

Product Manager - Electronics

Parker Hannifin - Sporlan Division

Responsible for product management and marketing of electronic control products for commercial and industrial refrigeration applications in the $1B Instrumentation Group of Parker Hannifin. 

Below are key experiences and accomplishments:

  1. Responsible for managing the integration of multiple product-lines as a part of an acquisition in Montreal, Canada.  Extensive experience in managing culturally and geographically diverse professionals as a part of the integration
  2. Launched a power monitoring solution (Parker Energy Solutions) using wireless energy harvesting sensor technologies.  Developed and sold energy management solutions for food retailers that included peak-shaving and demand-response technologies
  3. Brought expertise in new product development processes to the organization which had previously little experience.  This included sprint-based development for software used in controllers designed by Parker
  4. Managed a partnership with a European supplier to bring an updated line of controllers to market within the first 18 months of joining Parker.
  5. Managed the launch of the company's first full-function case controller. This included managing the commercial launch of the product.
  6. Gained extensive experience in "New Product Blueprinting" techniques for acquiring customer input to the product development cycle. Implemented Jobs To Be Done (JTBD) tools
  7. Worked closely with major OEMs and end customers to develop new products.  These customers include Hussmann, Hill Phoenix, Zero Zone, HEB, Target and Walmart.

Global Product Manager

Energizer Holdings, Inc

Managed the global product strategy for the $350 million Energizer Specialty Power and $200 million Lighting business units.

Below are key accomplishments and experience:

  1. Created reporting tools to provide visibility to global sales by customer and channel.These tools provided analysis of gaps in forecast to budget.  Also worked with global teams to develop a 5 year revenue bridge that doubled product operating profit.
  2. Successfully managed the market introduction of a number of key new products including zero mercury batteries and solar lighting products that resulted in new product distribution (channels and customers) with an estimated first year revenue of over $1 million.
  3. At Energizer I created and evangelized the use a number of tools including stage/gate development processes and product portfolio management to reduce the overall number of projects flowing through product development AND increase the "hit rate" or rate of success of the projects that did move forward.
  4. Managed global products under license with The Walt Disney Company (Disney Consumer Products). Under the Disney license I oversaw the development and launch of a line of entry level flashlights for children which effectively addressed non-licensed competitive product in Europe and Asia
  5. Built the first fuel cell business case for the Specialty Power business.  This involved ongoing discussions and negotiations with fuel cell technology companies such as Intelligent Energy (formerly Angstrom Power) and Trulite.
  6. Worked extensively with a number of world class product / industrial design firms including Chase Design, Design Resource and Nottingham-Spirk
  7. Negotiated supply arrangements for re-branded products from Sony, Panasonic and Seiko
  8. International experience includes Southern China, Central Europe (Germany,Spain, Czech Republic) and Japan
  9. Managed the launch and transition of over 30 global models on an annual basis meeting division inventory and obsolescence targets.
  10. Launched a line of Disney licensed lights that achieved global distribution and secured over $1 million in new sales revenue(not just incremental).

Directed product development, channel strategies and P&L for the $65 million Altra brand of Ameriwood.  This included design, sourcing, pricing, brand marketing, channel sales strategies and lifecycle management.

Key accomplishments and experience include:

  1. Negotiated and secured OEM design and distribution wins for plasma, LCD and LED stands with Samsung, RCA and others.
  2. Managed Altra financial plan including developing sales forecast with sales team and reps, creating and delivering P&L plan to senior management and managing the ongoing delivery of the sales plan to meet division financial objectives.
  3. Extensive experience presenting to and negotiating with a wide variety of retail accounts including Best Buy, Office Depot, Staples and others.
  4. Conducted on-site evaluations of over 10 manufacturing organizations in Southern and Central China
  5. Managed co-development and commercialization of a patented in-desk USB Hub with Belkin.  Also managed IP around this patented design for Ameriwood.
  6. Initiated discussions and negotiations with Alienware for specialized gaming desks and associated hardware.
  7. Negotiated and managed engineering, pricing and delivery of projects with overseas vendor-partners (China, Hong Kong, Brazil) as well as multiple domestic factories.

    Directed brand marketing, product management and marketing communications for the $150 million consumer products company.

    Ky accomplishments and experience include:

    1. Managed the launch strategy of product licensed to GPX by Crayola and Alienware - both partnerships were the first in the industry.
    2. Negotiated a technology agreement that allowed GPX to launch the industry's first "XM Ready" Portable Music System in partnership with SiriusXM.
    3. Managed the launch and marketing of two CES Innovations award winning consumer audio products
    4. Managed all brand marketing and product management activities for the company.
