As Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Rowlett, Texas, Jermel Stevenson has implemented and managed many programs and initiatives that have benefited his community. In partnership with the University of North Texas, Mr. Stevenson created a 5-year Parks and Recreation Open Space Master Plan that resulted in savings of $80,000 for the city. Jermel Stevenson chairs the citywide Health and Wellness Committee, whose programs have saved the city an estimated $1.5 million per year based on reduced employee health care expenditures. Jermel Stevenson also developed a social media marketing division, plan, and policy, all of which engage local residents through the use of Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and LinkedIn.

Since assuming the helm of Rowlett’s Parks and Recreation Department in 2010, Jermel Stevenson has overseen many community programs, including trips for seniors, community play days, and the Downtown Event Series of large-scale Main Street festivals produced in collaboration with local businesses and nonprofit organizations. Jermel Stevenson also manages the various interdependent units that comprise Rowlett’s municipal parks system, including Administration, the Parks Division, the Recreation Division, the Social Media Marketing Division, and Wet Zone Water Park Operations.

Prior to joining the City of Rowlett, Jermel Stevenson accrued considerable parks and recreation experience. Mr. Stevenson served as District Manager for the City of Detroit from 2003 to 2005 and as Deputy Director for the City of Phoenix from 2005 to 2009. A member of several professional associations, including the Michigan and National Recreation and Park Associations, as well as the Texas Recreation and Park Society, Jermel Stevenson earned a Master of Public Administration with a concentration in Urban Studies from Central Michigan University in 2007.
