I have an occasional role at a small accountancy and bookkeeping business where I provide assistance summarising invoices, filing and creating cash flow sheets among other tasks.

Riding for the Disabled

I volunteered for the Riding for the Disabled Association for six months during my secondary school studies.  My duties involved helping and comforting the young children, as well as taking responsibility for the horses.  The experience helped me to improve my confidence around young children and meant that I began to develop a keen interest in the non-profit sector.

Through my time at McDonald's I have become adept at coping with a fast paced and high volume customer service role.  I enjoy the aspects of teamwork and customer service involved in the job and have been happy to adjust to roles as they have been issued to me.

Shop Assistant


I volunteered at Oxfam for two years and was gradually given the responsibility of working in all areas of a busy, city center shop.  I was equally comfortable working behind the till and with being in the back shop with the other volunteers.  As I was one of the more long-term volunteers, I was occasionally given the responsibility of organising the newer volunteers and additionally I have been trusted to cash up at the end of the day.

Master of Arts with Honours

University of Edinburgh

After completing both Highers and Advanced Highers, I went directly into the first year of a Master of Arts degree at the University of Edinburgh where I was awarded with a 2:2. This challenge meant that I had to adjust to a self-motivated working environment rapidly.  Throughout this course I have developed the skills to work well in both team and individual projects.

I took a key interest in drama and was given the opportunity to direct a professional production, something which I was able to do due to my motivation in demanding working environments.  I also won the Harry Bell travel bursary for literature.
