I love stories, and I love strategizing, which is why I've chosen to intern at a public relations agency this spring. I'm looking forward to the opportunity to research and write marketing-oriented material. My past roles have enabled me to communicate in a wide variety of ways. I worked as a reporter for the Santa Maria Sun, a 20,000-circulation weekly paper on California's Central Coast, for a year after graduating from Colorado College. I was responsible for filling the news briefs and school scene sections, as well as completing a secondary or cover story each week. After my year there, thirsty to learn more about the world, I moved to Guadalajara, Mexico for eight months. For eight months I studied Spanish there and taught English for six of those months, presenting lessons to classes and organizing activities. It was a fascinating adventure, one that helped to inform my creative writing and my blog (www.jeanineonline.blogspot.com). My marketing-oriented work began when I returned and began working for the Democratic National Committee's grassroots campaign. The job taught me the basics of selling, as I went door to door raising money and managing groups of fundraisers to do the same. As for my college background, I used my time at Colorado College to develop as a cross country runner, write for the school newspaper and magazine, and write fiction as part of the English major's creative writing track. My thirst for knowledge leads me down a variety of paths, when I'm given the opportunity to communicate what I learn, I love it.
