Chesapeake Yoga & Wellness: Promoting classes, retreats and services in local, regional and social media sources; advertising and brochure copywriting and design; web site and e-mail newsletter management; featured yoga reporter for Baltimore Examiner and Chesapeake Healthy Lifestyles.

National Hospice Regatta Alliance: Developing strategic marketing plan for products and events; writing press releases to promote new partnerships and events; copy writing and designing advertising for National Championship event and local hospice events.

Wellness House of Annapolis: Strategize publicity tactics and solutions to promote the organization; achieved front page coverage of Wellness House’s grand opening in local newspaper, The Capital; Assisted with development and planning of the official promotional 7-minute video that is shown to community supporters and volunteers; advertising and brochure design and copywriting for promotional materials.

Hospice Cup, Inc.: Managed all public relations strategic planning and execution; designing and distributing the annual print advertising campaign which placed over $120K worth of advertising in 3 years; developed the annual video for TV that was run on Comcast and RCN networks; and initiating the first online fund raising in 2008 and raised record amount online in 2009 – totaling more than $40K;

Paddlesports Industry Association: editor for "Paddlesports Pro" newsletter, designer and writer for annual conference marketing materials and off-site staff communications manager;

National Coalition of Assistive and Rehabilitative Technology (NCART): manage online healthcare advocacy

American Association for Homecare

Managed public relations and media outreach efforts and annual planning for outreach efforts for Medicare issues related to home health care, annual conference, educational programs, and special public affairs campaigns; lead communications efforts for CAMSET coalition against Medicare’s Competitive Bidding program; editor and writer of weekly 8-page print and e-newsletter; feature article writer and spokesperson on behalf of the association for national medical trade publications; developer of e-mail marketing campaigns for association’s events and issue awareness campaigns; web site content manager.


Design Director

Designed, programmed and managed all client e-mail marketing campaigns. Created campaign program filters, trackable click-through and open lists, opt-in/out forms and formatted preference logins for list members; tracked list results of e-mail campaigns and surveys to present as ROI to clients; handled lists containing over 100,00 e-mail addresses.


Communications Manager

Voluntary Protection Program Participants’ Association (VPPPA)

Managed all public relations and media outreach to promote OSHA and VPPPA member health and safety programs; managing editor of association’s quarterly magazine, The Leader ; managed redesign of monthly magazine from newsletter format to magazine format; developed and managed association’s first advertising program integrated with the magazine – including editorial calendar development, ad specs and media kit development; initiated first email Government Relations Update newsletter for members; managed website rebuild and redesign; oversaw content, architecture and frequent updates of website.


Graphic Design and Marketing Coordinator

Manager, publisher and designer for all marketing publications including 1997 FEMA 500-page book on risk management; design, write and produce promotional brochures for Alexandria office; editor of company-wide civil engineering newsletter; created departmental presentations and proposals for government contracts; copywriter for promotional marketing materials and press releases; local advertising coordination.

International Fabricare Institute (IFI)

Creative manager of in-house four-color magazine, Fabricare; spearheaded the initiation of first editorial calendar and media kit; managed advertising sales and insertions for the magazine; developed copy for all association’s direct marketing publications and brochures.

In addition to teaching yoga and volunteering for special organizations, I enjoy staying active outdoors and am an avid sailor, stand up paddleboarder, kayaker, bicyclist, scuba diver and skier. I also enjoy photographing, painting and drawing the beautiful scenery of the Chesapeake Bay and Gulf of Mexico. I am also a member of the Annapolis Yacht Club, the Chesapeake Maritime Museum and serve as Commodore of the Chesapeake Bay Sabre Association.

Phillips Turner Communications brings over 17 years of experience in association and non-profit management as full-time staff, board member and volunteer for Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC area organizations.

As a current and past board member of several organizations, I have a practical understanding of the needs, challenges and responsibilities of working within nonprofit organizations and the important role that effective communications plays in relating to the community, industry, members and the public.

Effective communication requires complete understanding.
