Writing & Citation

Regardless of the requisite format, I likely know the answer--or at least where to look--regarding how to cite.  With respect to the actual substance of the paper, brief, motion, memo, etc., my experience with writing allows me to communicate effectively through brevity.   While acting as a law clerk, I familiarized myself--and worked regularly--with the idiosyncratic Michigan citation system as promulgated by the Michigan Court of Appeals. As the Articles Editor for the Journal of International Law, I frequently utilized and consulted the Bluebook for reviewing citations from prospective authors. Because of my background as a social science undergraduate student, I frequently used the American Psychological Association ["APA"] citation method in my papers. For other writing projects in various academic disciplines, I utilized the Modern Language Association ["MLA"] citation method.

Audio & Video Editing

I maintain proficiency with linear and nonlinear audio and video editing tools across various editing platforms and operating systems.  In effect, if a presentation to the trier of fact requires multimedia, I do not need outsourcing to an external company.  This lowers costs and ensures complete retention of attorney-client privilege.   With greater numbers of state and federal courts embracing technology, law firms must increasingly budget for external multimedia companies to edit and create audio and video presentations.  By maintaining multimedia creation and editing in-house, another expense is removed.

As a student, I completed five years of German language studies in junior high and high school.  As an undergraduate, I tested out of several German classes and completed the two-year foreign language requirement for my Bachelor of Arts degree in one semester.   Although my proficiency has diminished somewhat from inability to practice, ich kann lese, schreibe, und spreche Deutsch.  Minimal practice is necessary to regain and refine my German skills.

Computers and electronics, general

In addition to repairing innumerable amounts of electronics and computers in personal, professional, and academic settings, I have designed several computers based on an individual's needs and budgetary requirements.   I am skilled at fixing many computer problems involving both hardware and software.  Thus, I eliminate the need for hiring an outside contractor to fix all but the most major issues.   With respect to computer systems within law firms, being able to rely on a staff attorney to fix computer issues minimizes costs, maintains confidentiality of all privileged attorney-client information stored on the law firm's internal database, and ensures minimal computer downtime.

EBSCOhost research

Through research for my undergraduate thesis and research for the journal of international law, I am skilled at navigating social science and other academic databases to discover supporting research.

Legal Research

Between researching for the Journal of International Law, legal research as an intern, and daily usage, I am skilled at using both LexisNexis and Westlaw.   I am a certified researcher through both LexisNexis and Westlaw.

Jason has a passion for international law, criminal law, and estate planning. He is currently accepting new clients.
