Since 2009, Janis Adams has helped students achieve academic success through her in-home tutoring business in Santa Monica, California. Academic Achievers employs highly qualified, motivated, and personable tutors to assist students in an array of subjects. Ms. Adams maintains strict standards for applicants to the company with candidates required to show relevant experience, academic excellence, and quality recommendations. Janis Adams founded the company based on professional and personal academic successes. She earned a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science at Pennsylvania State University. During her undergraduate studies, Ms. Adams held membership in the Blue and White Alumni Society and the University Readers English Literature Club. She also volunteered at the “Children Learn to Read” Pep Club, starred in the Penn State Production of “Sport of My Mad Mother,” and achieved Dean’s List. After graduation, Janis Adams began a teaching career that would include experience in Pennsylvania and California. As an English teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District, she worked diligently to educate her students and encourage a love of learning. The first teacher in California to establish a paperless classroom, she co-founded the Media Academy at her school. Janis Adams also served as the Coach of Palisades High School Speech and Debate team and fostered the oratory skills of its members. In her personal life, Ms. Adams helped her own children excel in academic environments. Her daughter and two sons have attended prestigious institutions such as University of California at Los Angeles, Harvard Kennedy School of Public Policy, University of California at Berkeley, Harvard University, and University of San Diego School of Law. Janis Adams’ passion for education extends beyond the classroom, family, and business. In her personal time, she serves on the docent council for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. She shares the museum’s collections and history with children’s tours such as “People and Places” for first graders and “Art Tells a Tale” for third graders. Janis Adams maintains membership in the National Organization of Women Business Owners, the Parent Education League, and the National Tutoring Association.
