Summary

Hello, there! My name is Janelle Huelsman, and I am a graduating senior, studying public relations at Ohio University's E.W. Scripps School of Journalism. To pursue my many interests, I will also graduate with a certificate from Ohio University's Global Leadership Center and a minor in political science in June 2010.

I am a self-declared "aspiring storyteller"; I want to tell the world stories by crafting and delivering messages to address issues that matter. This e-portfolio helps to tell my story--how I came to be an aspiring storyteller.

Four years ago, I was a freshman and an aspiring newspaper journalist with high hopes of being a political reporter at The New York Times. After spending a year in the newsroom, I learned that the traditional newspaper industry was not for me, but I was still eager to sharpen my writing skills and to find my passion. Following my time as a reporter, I gained experiences in a variety of other settings--the public relations department of a full-service advertising agency, inside the classroom of public relations courses, international consulting with the American Embassy in Poland and more--all of which are demonstrated throughout this portfolio.

Each experience, be it as a media relations intern, a leader of a student organization or a grassroots coordinator, has led me to where I am today. This portfolio intends to show my growth both professionally and personally and to highlight my passion to tell stories, which I have developed through my accurate reporting and writing skills and my ability to think and to plan strategically.

This is my story.
