Ottawa resident Jamie Welsford was educated at the University of Ottawa, where he earned his Bachelor of Commerce in 1986. Subsequently, he completed an accounting degree through Carleton University, which is also located in Ottawa. Over the course of his career, Jamie Welsford has received training entitled Applied Research Methods, Financial Management and Budgeting, and Managing in a Unionized Environment. His education helped him during the next 20 years, as he worked his way up through the financial divisions of various health care organizations.Following graduation, Jamie Welsford became a Staff Accountant for Ernst & Young, LLP. After two years, Mr. Welsford transitioned to the health care field when he became a Financial Analyst for Ottawa Hospital. Four years later, he joined the Salvation Army Grace Hospital as the Director of Accounting Services. In 1998, Jamie Welsford became the Chief Financial Officer for Almonte General Hospital. He served for four years before taking a two-year break, returning in 2004 and staying on until 2010. Mr. Welsford contributed to the Hospital in several ways. He was instrumental in negotiations between Lanark County and the Hospital pertaining to the acquisition of a 112-bed facility for long-term care. His audit process management resulted in few to no audit recommendations. Mr. Welsford helped implement and establish a 100-user information technology infrastructure. He also saved the hospital significant funds by making astute investment decisions.From 2002 to 2004, Jamie Welsford functioned as the Director of Finance for the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group and as a Consultant to the Canadian Institute for Health Information. Today, he is a member of the Association of Family Health Teams of Ontario, the Canadian College of Health Service Executives, the Association of Ontario Health Centres, the Ottawa Human Resources Professionals Association, the Ottawa Administrators of Volunteer Resources, and the Canadian Healthcare Association.
