Practicum Student

Sedgwick County Department of Corrections
As a practicum student, I was placed at the Sedgwick County Department of Corrections Community Corrections Residential Center. My main function was to facilitate cognitive skills groups for adult and juvenile consumers. The groups ranged in size from two to fifteen consumers. I also provided cognitive skills and support counseling on an individual basis. I was able to broker community financial resources to the agency and provided individual budgeting support for clients as an attempt to address the many financial needs of our consumers. I also updated and expanded our Community Resource Manual for use by the staff and consumers of the agency. I professionally documented all interaction with consumers and participated in supervision as a practicum student with my LSCSW field instructor.

Practicum Student

Communities in Schools
As a practicum student, I was placed with Communities in Schools at the Derby Sixth Grade Center. While there, I created and developed curriculum for social development groups and acted as facilitator or co-facilitator for those groups. I provided academic support to consumers by aiding in the after school tutoring program as well as the academic improvement program. I informally mentored consumers to encourage social development based on attendance and grades. I completed intake paperwork for consumers and created case plans. I professionally documented all interaction with consumers and participated in student supervision as a practicum student with my LMSW field instructor.

Lead Life Skills Coach

Ozanam Pathways

As Lead Life Skills Coach at Ozanam Pathways, my main fuction was to create and update the Life Skills curriculum for consumers and monitor individual consumer completion. I also scheduled Life Skills speakers and presentations to aid in consumer social development. I aided consumers in job searching, completing applications and with interview skills. I also supervised Life Skills coaches and provided input and guidance in crisis situations.

Ozanam Pathways

As a Life Skills Coach at Ozanam Pathways, I monitored the residential environment for compliance to standards by consumers on and off-site. I also acted as an informal mentor to consumers to facilitate a safe and therapeutic environment. I composed daily and weekly progress notes regarding the behavior, affect and attitude of consumers. I encouraged and aided in consumer's completion of the LIfe Skills components. I also coordinated and provided transport for consumers appointments.

Motivational Interviewing

At my practicum placement with Sedgwick County Department of Corrections, Motivational Interviewing is widely used to encourage and enhance readiness to change. I acquired approximately 8 hours of training on Motivational Interviewing techniques and had the opportunity to apply these techniques in individual and group settings.
