Jamey Van Zandt is an accomplished trombone player and teacher. He has a demonstrated ability to play in a variety of styles, whether in a orchestral or as a soloist and clinician. As an educator, conductor, and director, Jamey Van Zandt is an experienced and reliable leader. While in high school, Jamey Van Zandt gained a place in the Texas Music Educators Association’s All-State Symphony Orchestra and also received a several Division I ratings as a Soloist at the Texas Solo-Ensemble Competition, Van Zandt attended The University of Texas at Austin and the University of Michigan, two schools that are renowned for their schools of music. While an undergraduate at the University of Texas at Austin, Jamey Van Zandt performed in the Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra. He was Trombone Section Leader of the Longhorn Band and winner of the Willie Nelson Endowed Presidential Scholarship. After completing his Bachelor of Arts in Music, Van Zandt received his Master of Music in Conducting at the University of Michigan where he conducted the Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, and several chamber groups. As a graduate Teaching Assistant for the University of Michigan’s Marching Band and Wind Ensemble.From 1997 to 2001, Jamey Van Zandt served as a trombonist in the United States Air Force Band in Washington, D.C. He conducted the Chamber Winds band and was a Featured Soloist at a U.S. Capitol Concert. Van Zandt also served in the Texas Army National Guard’s 36th Infantry Division Band from 2003 to 2005. Jamey Van Zandt went on to teach in the Austin area as both a private consultant and a public school instructor. Van Zandt plays trombone with the San Antonio Opera Orchestra and is a freelance trombonist in the greater Austin and San Antonio areas. Jamey Van Zandt is currently a trombonist with the San Antonio Opera.
