As the Superintendent of Schools for the Wappingers Central School District in New York, James Parla is able to utilize his diverse background as an educator and business professional in his work. As Superintendent of Schools, James Parla oversees annual budgeting, long-term financial planning, and faculty and staff management. He is also responsible for ensuring that the district's curriculum and programs are effective in educating students. James Parla began his career as an elementary school teacher, and after eight years as an educator, he joined Iona College as Assistant Dean at the Hagan School of Business. Parla worked with students to keep them on track to earn their degrees, aided in the development of the school's courses, and managed graduate assistants, student teachers, and other staff. Following eight years as the Director of Operations for NYNEX Corporation, a telecommunications company operating in New England, James Parla returned to the field of education in 1992. Five years later, James Parla was named the Superintendent of Schools for the North Bellmore Union Free School District. He later took on the same role with the Island Trees Union Free School District before accepting his current position with Wappingers Central School District in 2009. James Parla holds a Master of Business Administration from Iona College and a Doctor of Education from Columbia University. He is certified as a School District Administrator and as a School Administrator and Supervisor, and he maintains his certification to teach grades K-6.
