Current Role

My current role as a Cattle Specialist is to take the technical message from our research teams and disseminate it to advisors, farmers and stakeholders. This is done through technical notes, articles for the print media, teleconferencing and farm walks.

A key part of my job is to meet stakeholders within the industry to develop new relationships and projects going forward. Participation by Teagasc at the inception of any new programmes/schemes is mutually beneficial for all stakeholders.

We also play a key part in up skilling the private consultants in relation to technical advice. We provide training for the private consultants in all aspects of beef, sheep and dairying.

As a Teagasc cattle specialists we play a very important supporting role in Teagasc IFJ BETTER farm programme and the Teagasc Green Acres Calf to Beef Programme.

Publications/Achievements

I have written papers for both the Teagasc National Beef Conference and The Irish Grassland Conference as well as producing the monthly Teagasc Beef newsletter.

I have been heavily involved in setting up the new Teagasc Green Acres Calf to Beef Programme. This is a national joint programme with stakeholders and has 10 participating farmers from all over the country.
