Work experience

Dec 2013Jan 2014

Marks & Spencer

Customer Assistant

During the Christmas period, I took a position at Marks & Spencers. Being my first job, I was delighted at the opportunity to hone my skills in one of Britain's largest retailers and feel that despite the short period I learnt a vast amount from the experience.

Work Experience

Hammersmith & Fulham Occupational Therapy - June 2014

During the two week period in which I was invited to the office, I spent a lot of time in administration. The asset I gained from the experience was the ability to plan and organise under time constraints which I feel was very beneficial. I was also able to witness some first-hand interaction between some of the nurses and their patients. I also had the pleasure of working closely with the council’s Physiotherapist, allowing me to gain a better insight into clinical care.

Physiolink - July 2014

Over a four week period, I spent time at a private Physiotherapy clinic in Harrow. This is by far the most compelling experience I have had to date, as I was able to get an introspective view on the Physio occupation in a clinical environment and see a wide array of patients. I felt that this was a great experience and has allowed me the opportunity to boost my access to study Physiotherapy at university in the near future.

Regional Rehabilitation Unit @ Northwick Park Hospital - August 2013

During the first week of September I spent time shadowing at Northwick Park’s RRU. Instead of outpatients, I was dealing with more severe cases of people who had been in accidents which had affected them neurologically. I felt that this has been the most informative experience I’ve had in a Physio setting as it gave me a deeper insight into the field.

Sport: I regularly participate in sports, notably football. Until 2013, I pursued my passion for football with my local team and received a number of accolades, most notably Player of the Year. I have played county level for Middlesex and I am currently at Leverstock Green at Allied Counties, the highest level other than Academy in youth football. Playing football has greatly aiding my understanding of the importance of teamwork and working cohesively with other to reach targets.

Politics: In Year 12 I ran a Politics club, where students could come and debate current affairs that were in the public eye. Politics club required vital organisation and leadership on my part as I would need to compile key stories from the week, provide summaries and mediate the growing number of students that attended.

Travel: I have a passion for traveling, and experiencing different countries throughout the world. This has provided me with a better understanding of various other cultures and significantly helped with integrating with people from different walks of life.

I enjoy using computers and other technology, and  frequently upgrade various components of my own  software. I have extensive knowledge of computers and use this to my advantage when needed. I am also skilled in the use of Adobe applications, Microsoft Office (Advanced) and the use of social networks (Advanced). From previously working in retail I able competent in the use of registries also.
English, French (Basic), Ghanaian dialect (Fluent)
I am a lively young person who is highly  self-motivated. I am friendly, approachable, and enjoy working on a one to one basis with people when required. I have the ability to achieve targets and take on new challenges. I am a creative individual and able to identify flaws and spot opportunities as they arise. Also I can be an effective leader when needed, as well being able to integrate myself into working in units.
I enjoy challenging tasks and I was a Senior Prefect in high school; this carried a lot of responsibility. This allowed me to effectively organise well as I was usually in charge of planning various events and activities. I followed this on by running politics club for the sixth form helping the development of my interpersonal skills.
In sixth form, I mentor a younger student who struggles with his studies and behaviour. Being able to emphasise with him has given me the opportunity to build a positive rapport with him, which has allowed us to work cooperatively to improve his academic and social standing.
