Promoted with acquisition of prior employer Lumenos to lead flagship technology projects for this $65B health insurance carrier. Led strategic complex IT initiatives for commercial business unit, which counts for 52% of WellPoint's revenue.  Built project portfolio management process, aligning portfolio/project management office with business strategies. Directed budgets to $100M and staff of 75.


Increasing market share through new technology implementation. WellPoint had unsuccessfully tried to implement new consumer driven health plan (CDHP).  Developed and delivered new CDHP product across all states, delivering project under budget and ahead of schedule. New product enabled 30% market share increase.

Streamlining architecture to reduce costs. WellPoint had eight legacy consumer portals that were inefficient and costly to update/maintain. Consolidated all portals to one with consistent look and real-time display of claims activity. Improved request-to-implementation response rate by 80% and reduced costs by 45% saving $1.2M.

Improving program management process. Plan of Record model was inconsistent and not producing desired results, leading to high project failure rate. Redefined/streamlined process, adding quality check points. Improved IT Plan of Record and project quality, resulting in 90% of WellPoint projects delivered on time/on budget.

Managed IT projects/teams for this private health insurance carrier. Developed consumer portal recognized as best in industry for functionality, ease of use and innovation for five years. Directed budgets to $15M. Led 20 full time staff and 15 consultants.


Enhancing sales call to client ratio 32% by customizing CRM tools.  Consumer portal/CRM tools were not meeting customer, call center or sales team needs. Developed consumer web site powered by off the shelf content management system customized to support Lumenos needs. Increased customer satisfaction 50%.

Reducing application costs and time to market.  All web development at Lumenos was outsourced. Vendors were expensive and slow to market. Brought web development in-house, building IT department and a knowledge base. Improved application delivery quality 70% and reduced development costs 30% to $1M annually.
