  • Avoid and prevent that governments take radical measures such as excessive regulations or tax increases, explaining the consequences of this types of measures which only increase illegal contraband of cigarettes and the loss of tax revenues in these countries.
  • Continue and align with the global overall strategy, preserving a favorable environment for business. Direct communication strategy for each country carefully implementing the key messages for each audience, building tools and appropriate communication channels in each case.
  • Create a meaningful debate in Congress and a balanced discussion in the media about the issues related to tobacco control.

Specific Achievements

  • Ensure the continuity of 20% the total sales of the product portfolio in Chile, by inhibiting the banning of menthol cigarettes in this country.
  • Delaying the approval of a law that would apply a total ban on the display of tobacco products in Uruguay for two consecutive years, representing an average of$ $5 million in losses annually.
  • Ensure business continuity in Bolivia, by negotiating a proposed Presidential Decree against tobacco with government authorities. This included extreme regulatory measures that would affect the annual tax revenues and generate the loss of 600 jobs both in tobacco fields as in the local industry.
  • Keep our SoM in a constant 29%, compared to our main competitor TABAESA Paraguay(owned by President Horacio Cartes), which represents annual 10mdd.
  • Shield the reputation PMI Paraguay, by implementing social responsibility initiatives with recognized NGOs in the area.
