Summary

As a speech-language pathologist, Dr. Irene Gioules treats individuals with a wide range of swallowing, feeding, and speech-language disorders. Currently serving as the Director of Theratalk Speech-Language Pathology, P.C., a multidisciplinary, pediatric and adult therapeutic treatment center, Dr. Irene Gioules works primarily with young children, but also with adolescents and adults. For over a decade, she has helped hundred of patients develop normal speech patterns through innovative treatments that target language delays, articulation deficits, and various neurological disorders. An LSVT-certified therapist, apraxia and language delay specialist, she also oversees a dedicated staff of trained speech, occupational, and physical therapists. In addition to mentoring at least eight therapists annually, Dr. Gioules continues to remain abreast of the latest trends in her field and currently anticipates the publication of her most recent research. Dr. Irene Gioules began her education in speech-language pathology at St. John’s University. After graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts, Dr. Gioules attended St. John’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and earned a Certificate of Academic Excellence for her outstanding performance. In 1999, she gained acceptance into Columbia University and began studying the complex relationships between childhood swallowing, feeding, and motor skill developments. After successfully defending her dissertation entitled “The Developmental Coordination of Breathing Movements and Swallowing,” Dr. Gioules completed her doctorate in 2006. Prior to founding Theratalk, Dr. Irene Gioules received comprehensive training in an acute care facility where she treated newborns in neonatal care, children with speech and language deficiencies, and adults afflicted with neurological disorders. At present, her offices are based in Whitestone, New York, where she also sees individuals residing across Queens and Nassau counties.
