Key Accomplishments

Finance and Operations

  • Built, analyzed, and managed to annual budgets for 34 for-profit educational retail locations with profit and loss responsibility of $15M. Gathered data on previous year’s performance vs. budget, determined seasonal trends, met with regional teams to discuss their assessment of successes and challenges, protected time for all teams to complete budget review, created draft and revision approval timeline, then defended the following year’s budgets for President and his team.
  • Conducted weekly and monthly financial reporting check-ins to ensure progress toward annual profitability goals.
  • Completed high-profile accreditation documents in minimal time for two colleges while in training for Executive Director/Campus President position. This accomplishment led to swift reaccreditation approval for two campuses.
  • Developed and analyzed non-profit program budget. Reduced program cost in 2009 by 20%, without decreasing instruction hours.
  • Created a highly competitive school selection process designed to effectively communicate the value of the program and the implementation expectations, while also identifying the public school teams best positioned for a long-term fee-for-service partnership.
  • Created, reviewed and modified contracts and fee agreements with clients and school districts, to ensure prompt and correct payment and adherence to district, state, and federal laws.
  • Ensured responsible spending in compliance with federal grant guidelines.
  • Created two-year project plan, designed to streamline Academy operations, which resulted in approximately $100K in annual payroll savings.
  • Designed and wrote official program operations manual, intended to increase operational efficiencies.
  • Adapted a New York-based non-profit program for the Los Angeles market, scaling it (in first four months with the organization) from serving one school and 600 families per year to 35 schools and 7000 families per year. Managed family training events from start to finish every non-holiday weekend from September to May, with 200 to 600 families participating simultaneously, at up to 4 school locations across Los Angeles. Screened, hired, onboarded, trained, and placed all regional employees.

    CFY is a national organization that helps students, teachers, and parents use digital learning to improve educational outcomes. Since 1999, CFY has leveraged technology to enable students to take charge of their learning; teachers to make learning more engaging within the classroom and beyond the classroom into the home; and parents to become more powerful learning partners with their children. Formerly known as Computers for Youth, and now known as Power My Learning.

    • Provided overall organizational leadership, leading Los Angeles program operations and implementation, including talent acquisition, professional development, and budget management.
    • Developed, motivated, and inspired a strong internal team, including 15 full-time staff and 50 part-time staff, encouraging teamwork, collaboration, and respect for CFY's mission and constituents.
    • Integrated new program components into current model, including managing the hiring and restructure of region staff in order to deepen impact in schools. New components include Blended Learning Consulting and Enhanced Family Engagement Services.
    • Ensured effective collaboration and consistent communication between the Los Angeles region and CFY National Product Team, including providing feedback on existing projects and initiating new innovations.
    • Partnered with Co-Director, External Relations and Sustainability, in building and managing key external relationships, both within the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and throughout Greater Los Angeles.
    • Helped lead external meetings with foundations, individual and corporate donors, and school leadership to represent and speak about the organization's programmatic and community impact.
    • Supported the expansion of San Francisco Bay region by providing training and guidance to the newly hired Executive Director and Manager of Blended Learning, and by contributing staff to their workshops.
    • Ensured responsible spending that was in compliance with federal grant guidelines.

      Managing Director

      • Built and nurtured relationships with Principals at partner schools, meeting with them regularly to assess the program's impact and potential areas of improvement, with an eye towards building a group of "Principal Champions" who validated organization's mission.
      • Hired and trained an additional 20 full time staff and 90 part time staff from two and nine respectively, in order to scale the Los Angeles region for the initial launch.
      • Scaled operations of  program model from serving 300 families to 700 families annually, which included expansion of school and partner relations, operations and logistics, curriculum and training, volunteer management as well as program evaluation and improvement.

      Established in 2001, Eli Broad's non-profit education reform organization's mission has been to raise student achievement by recruiting, training and supporting executive leadership talent from across America to become the next generation of urban school district leaders. The Broad Superintendents Academy is the only executive management program in the country that recruits, trains and places non-traditional superintendent candidates as well as standout career educators.

      • Planned and executed Academy professional development sessions: overseeing operations and planning of session logistics, and managing faculty and guest presenters. Created two-year project plan, designed to streamline Academy operations, which has resulted in approximately $100K in annual payroll savings. Designed and wrote official program operations manual, intended to increase operational efficiencies.
      • Managed fellow leadership development, differentiated learning, and study district opportunities; coordinated with fellow coaches and faculty advisors to maximize fellow skill development during the Academy.
