Why I am an effective teacher

  1. I am innovative. I am often thanked by parents for preparing their students for the future, and not teaching as if we are living in the past. I include real-life exercises (business groups, programming, etc.) in my instruction.
  2. I use technology effectively. My students know how to use the internet and its tools carefully and effectively. Google Classroom and other sites are used to the students' advantage.
  3. I play outside with the students (recess, P.E., etc.) I model hard work, physical activity, and positive interpersonal and team skills. This also gives me an opportunity to praise students outside of the classroom.
  4. I am respected (not not feared) by the students.
  5. I have more experience in the "real-world" than most teachers. I teach at a higher level than most.
  6. I have high expectations for all students.
  7. I am a team player.

Teaching Philosophy

I believe that optimal learning should be core-centered, relevant, challenging, and fun. I achieve these objectives through engaging activities and technology.

Among many peers, I am known as the "data guy" and the "technology guy". I am a member of ISTE, and I have a strong interest in utilizing technology to advance learning in public education through differentiation and extensions.

I enjoy tracking and organizing data so that it can be used by teachers and administrators to improve learning, meet goals and objectives, and monitor  school initiatives.

I utilize technology in innovative ways in the classroom. For example, in addition to learning and mastering new mathematical concepts, my students can create programs using Python or create a spreadsheet using Google Sheets to implement  those mathematical concepts to quickly solve real-world problems.

I do now what all teachers should/must do in the future. I am 'ahead of the curve!' in preparing these kids for the future.
