Office Assistant

During the course of my employment at Kimball, I have changed certain processes to be more efficient and productive.  I focus on the details and help to catch small errors before they become a problem while trying to find the best and quickest way to complete a task.  Editing professional documents and creating form letters are two examples of how I was able to bring my English degree into use in the workplace.  Other administrative tasks - such as filing (physical and electronic), answering phones, providing customer service, and entering orders - were routine assignments and special projects were often assigned as well.

Independent Internship

My internship was independent and not through a company.  I did projects for Kimball Midwest, my current employer, as well as projects as an independent contractor through individuals I found by networking.  The projects ranged from simple editing jobs to more complex, almost ghost-writing, gigs.  I also created documents such as flyers and forms for one of my projects.

Merchandiser & Customer Associate (MCA)

Marketing merchandise and brands in an appealing manner, on the sales floor, to increase probability of customer purchase.

Editorial Tasks
These tasks include spelling, grammar, fact checking, overall flow of documents, consistency of style.  I have edited a couple short booklets for members of a nonprofit who self-published their works and I help edit the article(s) for the newsletter printed for the nonprofit.  I also edit professional documents in my current position as Office Assistant. 
Administrative Tasks
These tasks include phones, filing (physical & electronic), copying, basic accounting, writing letters, and general organization.
Adobe Dreamweaver & Photoshop
I have basic familiarity with these programs but I am still learning how to use them more effectively.
Adobe InDesign
InDesign is the program used to create the newsletter at a nonprofit of which I am a part.  I am on the staff of the newsletter and have been using this program for about a year.
Microsoft Office
I am familiar with all the programs in the office suite, but Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint are my strong points.  I have used all three in both professional and school settings for several years.  I received my Microsoft Office Word (2003) Specialist Certificate in 2006.
