Leadership

Some of the leadership opportunities I have had include:     Peer Resource for Orientation (2009) - responsible for a group of incoming freshmen, get them ready to         start college     Peer Leader (2009)- help tutor freshmen in a class that I am familiar with at Queens known as Core     Mission Trip Counselor (2006)- helped organize the daily work in a poor town in Western Virginia and         helped organize spirtual activities to entertain the youth in the afternoons and evenings     Internship at Hollin Meadows Elem (2006)- helped a first grade class with reading, writing, and math         skills     Thirty Hour Famine (2004-2005)-learn discipline and sacrifice while not eating for 30 hours and doing         work to help the community and raising awareness for child hunger

Objective

An internship with a program for children of elementary age who are struggling with reading skills. I would enjoy a program with either children with learning disabilities or medium to high functioning autism.

Interest

International Mission Trips

    Puerto Rico (2004)

    Guatemala (2005)

    Costa Rica (2007)

    Hawaii (2008)

    Thailand (2008)

What I learned from these trips was not that I am fully capable of helping, but that I really love helping children who are in need.
