Omar Ha-Redeyeis a Toronto lawyer focusing on health law (personal injury, medical malpractice, occupational health and safety, health policy) and reputation management (online defamation, crisis communications, public relations).
He is a graduate (Juris Doctor) of the law program at theUniversity of Western Ontario. He has taught law and ethics atRyerson Universityas an Adjunct Faculty member and has been regular lecturer in communications and social media at theSchulich School of Business. He currently sits on the Ontario Bar Association as theVice-Chair of the Young Lawyers Division (Toronto). In 2011 he was named one of thetop 12 social media influencerspracticing law in Canada.
Omar Ha-Redeye won or placed in more than half of UWO Law’soral advocacy competitions, making the finals in all of the school’s upper-year appellate moots. He has received numerous awards for advocacy, including thePatricia DeGuire Cup for Best Oralistin theKoskie Minsky LLPDiversity Moot, theJustice C.D. Stewart Trophyforbest teamin theLerners LLPCup, andwinnerof theBorden Ladner Gervais LLPClient Counselling Competition.
During his time in law school hepublishedwithOxford University Press(ISBN 9780195560558),CRC Press (Taylor & Francis Group)(ISBN 9781439821299), and theWindsor Review of Legal and Social Issues(Vol. 1, No. 1, April 2010). He alsospokeat a number of professional venues while studying law, including atthe United Nations, to a diplomaticdelegationfrom China, as well as several academicconferencesand post-secondary institutions.
Omar is one of the few law students in Canada to participate in multiple law exchange programs with other universities internationally, including partnerships with theUniversity of Toronto,Thomas M. Cooley Law School,Whittier Law School,Bar-Ilan University,Baylor University, andUniversidad Autónoma de Guadalajara. He received two internationalCALI Excellence for the Future Awardsin academic achievement for the highest performance in law courses in theholocaust and genocideandreligious legal systems.
He was actively involved in his law school community, holding the role of President of theBlack Law Students Association(BLSA), theHealth Law Club, and theMature Students Club.AsMagisterofRand Innhe lead UWO’s chapter ofPhi Delta Phi (ΦΔΦ), an international legal fraternity. HefoundedtheWestern Law Review Association, a group dedicated to establishing the University of Western Ontario Journal of Legal Studies, and created the largest law school blog and podcast in Canada atLaw is Cool.Life Before Law
Prior to law school, Omar began his clinical career inNuclear Medicinein the U.S. While working at a veteran institution in the U.S., he began his research intoradiological hazards. He continued working in the field of nuclear medicine for a major health care system, before taking on various administrative roles in the areas ofemergency management. He completed an additional degree inhealth administration, where he graduated as the only student in his class with honours and was presented theDennis Mock Student Leadership Awardfor community involvement. After finishing a certificate incorporate communications & public relationshe worked briefly in communications for a provincial cabinet member.
Omar has operated as a Hazardous Materials (HazMat) respondent and First Responder, and has field experience in South-East Asia after the2004 tsunami.
