An authority in the field of ophthalmology, Howard S. Weiss, MD, has pioneered new techniques in cataract and glaucoma surgery. The Washington, DC-area specialist has developed two innovative approaches for treating pressure in the eye. The first method utilizes a drainage tube, while the second alleviates pressure without entering the eye. In addition, Howard S. Weiss, MD, is one of the few surgeons in the region who possesses the qualifications to use state-of-the-art astigmatism-correcting toric intraocular lenses and multifocal lens technologies, including Tecnis, Crystalens, ReSTOR, and ReZoom intraocular lenses. Howard S. Weiss, MD, presently applies his advanced skills as an Ophthalmologist with Washington Eye Physicians & Surgeons, located in Chevy Chase, Maryland. As such, he performs surgical procedures and laser treatments for individuals in the community and surrounding areas. Due to his outstanding reputation, more than half of his patients are referred by fellow physicians. Dr. Weiss has had the privilege of performing eye surgery on other eye doctors and their families. Away from his practice, Howard S. Weiss, MD, contributes to his profession via multiple avenues. In collaboration with the National Eye Institute, he has been engaged in two research projects: the Advanced Glaucoma Intervention Study and the Ocular Hypertension Treatment Study. He also serves as a Clinical Associate Professor at Georgetown University Medical Center and acts as a Glaucoma Consultant for Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. In addition, Dr. Weiss has addressed audiences of practicing ophthalmologists at the invitation of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
